"Happiness is not a competition, it's not a prize: it's everyone's right". This is how Maria Antonietta and Colombre described the song they will perform together on stage at the Sanremo Music Festival, Italy's most major music event, in February. They are the Festival’s “indie” duo and, together with the other 29 competitors, yesterday they revealed the title of the song with which they will compete. This year, the songs will again encompass a diverse array of themes: ranging from love stories, often autobiographical, as exemplified by "Ora e per sempre" by singer-songwriter Raf, to lyrics that will provide "a significant reflection on personal growth, where I confront vulnerability and discuss myself", as former winner Francesco Renga described his "Il meglio di me". But Italy's most important television week will also showcase songs appreciated for their humor and irony, such as "Che fastidio" by pop-dance artist Ditonellapiaga, as well as themes related to artificial intelligence: exemplified by "AI AI", a track by rapper Dargen D'Amico that "draws inspiration from regional biodiversity to create organic music that remains authentic". And then there is "Stella stellina" by Ermal Meta, another former winner, a song described as "highly relevant yet also one of hope and resilience" that “tells the story of a child seen through the eyes of a stranger, who is in fact also a little bit her own".
