The National Union of Pro Loco has, for the first time, documented over 30,000 elements of Italy's cultural heritage, encompassing traditions, rituals, local products, and historical events. The census was initiated in 2023 under the direction of the Ministry of Culture. The project, which includes approximately 3,000 museums and ecomuseums and has the active participation of over 2,600 experts, scholars, and volunteers, aims to collect everything that represents our roots. This endeavor is consistent with the 2003 UNESCO Convention, which acknowledges the importance of intangible cultural assets in fostering collective identity and sustainable development. The Bel Paese has 21 traditions on the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage, the most recent being Italian cuisine, which was added a few days ago.
