Seventy-two international and domestic flights operated by ITA Airways, out of around 320 operated during this period, have been canceled today, Wednesday, December 17, due to the airline's first national strike since the Lufthansa era. The unions announced the strike because they believe the company's proposals fall short on multiple fronts. At the core of the protest is the renewal of the national contract: following substantial pay reductions resulting from the establishment of ITA Airways, salaries continue to fall below those of the Lufthansa group, and the proposed increase by the company is considered insufficient. Another source of contention is the industrial plan, which is regarded as unambitious, particularly in terms of fleet investments, which the unions feel would ensure neither true growth for the airline nor the full rehabilitation of former Alitalia employees who are currently on furlough or on fixed-term contracts. Finally, the inadequate acknowledgment of the performance incentive represents a substantial concern: the unions assert that the company has only disbursed a partial payment of the amount owed, whereas ITA contends that it has fulfilled the terms of the agreements.
