The average annual earned income for Italians in 2024 amounted to €26,079, representing a 2.2% increase from the previous year and a 1.1% rise in real terms, after accounting for an inflation rate of 1%. This information was verified using data from the National Social Security Institute (ISS), which indicates the existence of nearly 27 million workers in 2024 across all social security schemes. This represents a 1.4% increase compared to 2023 and a more significant rise of 5.7% relative to 2019, the year prior to the pandemic. The data encompasses 95% of the regular workforce in Italy, with the sole exceptions being professionals enrolled exclusively with professional association pension funds and a limited number of other categories of occasional self-employed workers. In 2024, men account for 56.2% of employed and self-employed workers, with an average number of weeks worked per year of 43.7 and an average annual income of €29,236; women work an average of 42.6 weeks annually and earn an average annual income of €22,023. A substantial gender disparity continues to exist; however, in 2024, the average annual income for women experienced a greater increase (+2.8%, compared to +1.8% for men).
