More than 479.7 million estimated presences, with growth of +3% compared to 2024: 2025 marks new records for Italian tourism according to forecasts by the Statistics Office of the Ministry of Tourism. In the first nine months of the year, Italy reported 406 million total overnight stays, matching Spain (415.6 million) and outpacing France (401.3 million), Germany (346 million), and Greece (140.4 million). The international segment serves as the primary generator of the sector, growing by more than 4% compared to the previous year and representing 55% of the total flows. Specifically, the 224.8 million foreign overnight stays far outnumber those reported in France (128.0 million) and are comparable to those in Spain (264.6 million), demonstrating Italy's great ability to attract and keep foreign demand. So much so that, according to Eurostat (the Statistical Office of the European Union), the average duration of stay is also rising, reaching 3.6 nights, surpassing that of Spain (3.4), France (2.6), and Germany (2.4). This achievement extends beyond mere quantitative metrics and reflects economic resilience, demonstrating the sector's increasing capacity to generate value for the national economy: from January to September 2025, the Bank of Italy reported a record surplus of 19.6 billion euros (+7% compared to 2024) in the tourism balance of payments, with international expenditures reaching 46.4 billion euros, representing a growth of +4.9% over 2024.
