He became the first student to reach this milestone among those who arrived at the University of Verona through the University Corridors for Refugees (Unicore) program, promoted by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in collaboration with 37 Italian universities. Apollo Pach, originally from South Sudan and a refugee in Kenya, arrived in Verona in the fall of 2023 thanks to the 5.0 edition of the project. The graduation ceremony was attended by Rector Chiara Leardini and Stefania Pontrandolfo, the university’s International Development Cooperation Coordinator. The university carries out numerous initiatives to support refugee and at-risk students and scholars, in collaboration with a network of local, national, and international partners. The university emphasizes that Apollo’s story goes beyond his outstanding academic achievements: from the very first months, he stood out for his ability to seize every educational, cultural, and community opportunity. He also served as a tutor for the group of refugee students enrolled at the university, becoming a reference point for those, like him, pursuing studies far from home.
