Italy has higher electricity prices than other European countries. In 2024, Italian households, on average, incurred expenses that were 5% higher than the Eurozone average, 26% higher than those of a Spanish household, and 8% higher than a French household. The disparity becomes even more evident when evaluating enterprises. For an industrial SME, the cost of electricity amounts to approximately €0.22 per kWh; roughly 10% above the Eurozone average, 22% higher than in France, and a significant 56.9% greater than in Spain. Compared to other nations, the expense of raw materials is a significant consideration, as nuclear and renewable energy sources exhibit lower marginal costs than natural gas, particularly when accounting for overall system costs. Among these, the most significant factor is the incentives for renewable energy: their cost in Italy is approximately 25 times higher than in Spain and 15 times higher than in Germany. In France, renewables play a little role and so do not incur large costs in electricity rates.
