According to a study conducted by Toy Industries of Europe (TiE), which analyzed a sample of 70 unbranded toys purchased from seven marketplaces and sourced from non-EU online vendors, predominantly Asian, and subsequently tested by an independent laboratory, 96% failed to meet EU regulations, and 86% posed significant safety hazards, including small parts, magnets, and accessible batteries. Choking dangers, burns, contact with dangerous substances, and injury are among the most common concerns. Furthermore, labels and warnings are nearly usually absent. The Digital Services Act exempts online platforms from accountability in this regard, regardless of their role in sales. Tens of thousands of carriages, bouncers, swings, car seats, and other accessories are being imported into Italy from China, all priced at or near production costs and of inferior quality. Many Italian businesses are struggling due to aggressive competition from Asian manufacturers.
