An Italian citizen died as a result of a collision between two cruise ships on the Nile River yesterday evening near Esna, a town approximately 50 kilometers south of Luxor. The crash occurred around 7:00 p.m. local time and involved two tourist boats on a river trip. The Royal Beau Rivage, one of the two vessels involved, was carrying between 70 and 80 Italian tourists, however this number is still being confirmed. The victim was traveling with her husband. According to initial reports, the collision severely damaged at least four cabins aboard the yacht; the woman was hurt during the accident and died as a result. Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani is monitoring developments in the case. The Farnesina reported that Italian consulate authorities are in constant contact with the victim's spouse and the tour operator in charge of the trip. The Italian honorary consul in Luxor has also been activated to assist and personally monitor the situation on-site. At this point, no other major injuries have been reported among the Italian passengers on board, but additional investigations are underway to determine the exact dynamics of the accident.
