The proportion of Italians planning to purchase Christmas gifts this year is rising (81.5%, compared to 79.9% in 2024); among them, women, those over 55, and residents of the country’s North-West stand out. The following items continue to be the most popular gifts: food and wine products, wines, and spirits (19.7%), personal care and beauty products (15.2%), and clothing, footwear, and sporting goods (13.2%). These are the primary findings of Confcommercio's Christmas 2025 consumption survey, undertaken in partnership with Format Research. Further down the list are streaming service subscriptions, reservations for shows and concerts, smartphones and consumer electronics, jewelry, and watches. Two-thirds of Italians will buy gifts both in-store and online, while 23.6% will buy them only from traditional channels, such as huge shopping malls and local stores. In terms of spending budgets, which remain mostly unchanged from last year, nearly nine out of 10 Italians plan to spend up to €300, while the proportion of those who will spend more than that amount rises slightly (from 13% to 13.2%). And when it comes to expenses, among those who receive a thirteenth-month salary, 22.8% use it to cover household and family expenses, 22.1% set it aside as savings, 20.2% allocate it to taxes and utility bills, and nearly 18% use it to purchase Christmas gifts.
