Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti dismissed allegations of austerity directed at the government during the Senate budget debate, instead endorsing a cautious and prudent strategy. According to the Treasury Minister, this decision does not impede growth but rather increases Italy's confidence in the markets and in Europe, helping to manage the spread during a period of higher interest rates than in the past. Giorgetti also justified the parcel tax, explaining that it is intended to prevent what he sees as unfair competition from non-European platforms, which threatens existing retail networks and jobs. The minister describes this approach as necessary and has already been debated at the European level. On the tax front, the minister noted that the government's actions have mostly benefited employees, with tailored measures for low- and middle-income earners and families, allowing for the recovery of the fiscal drag. Conversely, he clarified that the tax burden has risen for financial operators and individuals with greater financial incomes. Meanwhile, the government has requested a vote of confidence from the Senate on a significant modification to the Budget Law. The procedure, which has been announced by Minister for Relations with Parliament Luca Ciriani, will begin Tuesday.
