An apparently minor incident has developed into a disciplinary case of considerable symbolic significance within Italian amateur soccer. The FIGC’s sports justice system has intervened against some players from Grosseto, a Serie D team, following the theft of sports equipment belonging to Fiorentina. The incident took place on March 27, 2025, during a collaborative training exercise between Grosseto and Fiorentina's Primavera Under-19 team, conducted at Viola Park, the club's modern training complex located on the outskirts of Florence. At the end of the session, some training shirts and other technical gear from Fiorentina were allegedly taken from the dressing room temporarily assigned to the visiting team. The inquiry by the Federal Prosecutor's Office resulted in the identification of individuals involved and the imposition of sanctions. Three Grosseto players—Massimiliano Benucci, Luca Senigagliesi, and Emilio Dierna (who has since moved to Viterbo)—were suspended for two league games. The decision is founded upon a breach of the principles of loyalty, integrity, and equitable competition, which are fundamental pillars of the Italian sporting framework. The punishment for Grosseto's general manager, Filippo Vetrini, was more harsh, with a two-month suspension. According to the findings, the manager presented a fraudulent account of the events, initially attributing responsibility to another club member, a version subsequently repudiated by federal investigations. The club was also held accountable, with a €750 fine: a relatively small amount but significant in the context of amateur football.
