The match between AC Milan and Como will not take place in Australia. Within a week of the formal announcement regarding the agreement to play the February 8 match in Perth, Lega Serie A has reversed its decision, opting for abandoning the project. Only a few days earlier, on the sidelines of Napoli-Milan in Riyadh, Lega Serie A president Ezio Simonelli confirmed the green light after agreeing to the Asian Football Confederation's referee conditions. However, the situation has shifted dramatically in recent hours. The decision to cancel the event was made due to unsustainable financial risks, specifically costly approval procedures and last-minute issues. The proposal to host the inaugural official European Championship match, which counts towards points, in Perth received approval from all 20 Serie A clubs, the Italian Football Federation (FIGC), and UEFA. However, the additional conditions mandated by the AFC have rendered the operation financially too risky for both the League and the Western Australian government. The location and date of the Milan-Como match remain unknown, as San Siro will be unavailable on February 8th for the Milan-Cortina Olympics' opening ceremony. Despite the cancellation, Perth's candidacy nonetheless secured significant international visibility, estimated at over 280 million dollars, confirming the global interest in an operation that, for now, remains without follow-up.
