Rome and Milan are getting closer, forming a hologram. This is the outcome of a recent test conducted on Italy's fiber optic network: a long-distance transmission at 64 terabits per second, the highest speed ever attained in the country, capable of spanning more than 600 kilometers through real-time holographic communication. This record has the Open Fiber signature and represents a significant step toward scenarios that were previously thought to be science fiction. This breakthrough will have practical repercussions for citizens, corporations, and institutions. On December 12, as announced by the company, a successful real-time holographic transmission between Rome and Milan was completed, demonstrating the extreme potential of the next-generation fiber network. "This accomplishment affirms our vision of a progressively digital Italy, where advancements in infrastructure facilitate transformative applications such as holographic communication, while also expanding opportunities in employment, education, healthcare, and entertainment. This progress helps to bridge the digital divide and brings technology closer to individuals", remarked Francesca Parasecolo, Head of Network Engineering at Open Fiber.
