"All's well that ends well. I am confident that this is a sound budget law that affirms a positive trajectory for the nation and its citizens", said Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti to reporters, commenting on the Senate's approval of the budget law, which followed the Senate's confidence vote and the subsequent approval of the Budget Amendment in a swift Cabinet meeting. “In the latest maxi-amendment, we’ve increased allocations for Transition 5.0, for the Zes, and especially for public works for businesses and price adjustments. We've now reached approximately €22 billion". Giorgetti also emphasized targeted tax measures: "Taxing only 5% of contractual increases is something the unions have always requested, and we’ve naturally done it for employees with lower incomes. The 1% tax on productivity wages also indicates the direction we should go". The minister affirmed the government's efforts: "A positive budget that demonstrates once again how the entire government supports the approach we set out three years ago. The opposition says more could have been done? Well, the opposition always says more can be done... there was even a song that said so. But the requests from Confindustria before the start of the budget law ultimately align exactly with the response we’ve given as a government". With the Senate's vote of confidence approved, the 2026 budget, which will be definitively approved by the Chamber of Deputies by New Year's Eve, is confirmed at €22 billion. The law includes a reduction in income tax rates to three brackets, incentives for youth, women, and workers from the South, a "green" tax credit for businesses, and measures to support work, training, and productivity. The healthcare sector will be allocated an increase of €3 billion to decrease waiting times, enhance community health services, and renew existing contracts. Other measures included increased funding for the universal single allowance, birth rate assistance, family caregivers, infrastructure repair, and fighting hydrogeological instability. Some amendments, such as limitations on wage arrears and rules regarding public office positions and out-of-role magistrates, were excluded after controversies arose between opposition parties.
