Recycling Christmas gifts has become a widespread habit in Italy, generating savings estimated at €3.7 billion — €300 million more than last year. Almost half of Italians, around 28 million people, say they reuse or repurpose gifts they receive. Many keep items to regift later, while three in ten sell them online. Others exchange unwanted presents in stores for vouchers or different items. Food products top the list of recycled gifts, followed by clothing accessories, books and toys. The trend reflects a growing focus on practicality, sustainability and smarter consumption during the holiday season.
