Amazon has decided to suspend its drone delivery project in Italy, while continuing development in the United States and the United Kingdom. The decision affects the “Amazon Prime Air” pilot program launched in San Salvo, in the Abruzzo region. Italy’s civil aviation authority, ENAC, described the move as unexpected. According to reports, the suspension is linked to recent financial challenges faced by the company. The decision also comes amid the resolution of a major tax dispute, with Amazon agreeing to pay €511 million to Italian tax authorities over alleged VAT irregularities. The move signals a shift in strategy for the e-commerce giant in Italy, putting on hold a project that had been presented as a symbol of technological innovation.
