A 31-year-old freerider from Rome has died following a serious accident on the Marmolada. Edoardo Conti passed away at Santa Chiara Hospital in Trento, where he had been taken in critical condition after being caught in an avalanche on Saturday afternoon. According to rescuers, Conti was crossing a slope at around 2,700 meters below Punta Rocca when a snow slab broke loose. The avalanche reportedly carried him over a rocky drop and into a deep crevasse. Friends who were with him raised the alarm after losing contact for about half an hour. Rescue operations involved helicopter support, dog units and mountain rescue teams from Alta Fassa and Moena. After hours of searching, the skier was located deep inside the crevasse and extracted with great difficulty. Despite emergency treatment and rapid transport, he died several hours later.
