On Tuesday, January 6, at 9:30 a.m., Pope Leo XIV closed the Holy Door of St. Peter's Basilica in the presence of President Sergio Mattarella. This signaled the end of the Jubilee Year 2025. For the event, 33,475,000 pilgrims from 185 countries gathered in Rome. The majority of the devout originated from Europe: 62% of pilgrims hailed from Europe, 16% from North America, and 9.5% from Latin America. Italy had the most pilgrims (36.3%), followed by the United States (12.5%), Spain (6%), and Brazil (4%). Rome spent 70% of the €1.7 billion set aside by the government for the Jubilee. Many initiatives will be completed in the next few years, including plans to repair bus shelters and resurface roads. The Jubilee also posed a challenge to Lazio's healthcare system. Francesco Rocca, head of the region, stated that "during the Jubilee year, we executed 580,000 rescue operations, an increase of 40,000 from 2024". The number of emergency room visits increased to 1.6 million from 1.5 million the previous year.
