In 2025, the Italian box office generated more than €496.5 million, with approximately 68.3 million tickets sold. This outcome is consistent with the previous year (+0.5% box office revenue; -2% attendance) and 2023 (+0.2% box office revenue; -3.2% attendance). The key to attaining this outcome, consistent with the trends observed over the past two years, was the contribution of domestic production, which maintained its upward trajectory, accounting for a total of 32.7% of box office revenue and 33.3% of admissions in 2025. This was driven by over €162.4 million in box office earnings and 22.7 million tickets sold. This is the best result since 2016, both in absolute terms and percentage, and it exceeds the average for the 2010-2019 decade (26.2% of box office; 27.1% of admissions). This was accomplished through consistent growth throughout the year, which had already surpassed 29% of total admissions by mid-December, prior to the release of holiday films, most notably ‘Buen Camino’. Both the summer and the year as a whole were influenced by the international offering, which was far less rich and significant at the box office than in the past. The top-grossing film overall was ‘Buen Camino’ by Gennaro Nunziante (€36 million; 4.4 million admissions), marking Checco Zalone’s return to theaters, followed by ‘Lilo & Stitch’, ‘Follemente’, ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’, and ‘Zootropolis 2’.
