Italian basketball is experiencing one of its most embarrassing moments in recent years. Yesterday, in Bulgaria, the Sicilian team Trapani experienced a remarkable defeat during the Champions League play-in against Israel's Hapoel Holon. The game lasted less than 7 minutes. Not due to a sudden physical collapse, but because Trapani arrived with only five players: injuries and cumulative fouls reduced the roster to only one player, the youthful Martinelli, forcing the referees to halt the game. The rule is clear: at least two players per team must be on the court to continue the game. The international federation, FIBA, has canceled the return match, and Trapani is immediately eliminated from European competition. Given the impossibility of avoiding another embarrassing moment in front of the home fans, many analysts believe this was an unavoidable option. The disaster is not limited to Europe. In Italy, Trapani is already embroiled in an internal legal and disciplinary dispute. The team forfeited a Serie A match in Bologna just a few days ago, and now the next game, against Trento, could determine its fate in the national championship.
