The exhibition “Eyes on History. The photos, the news, the 140 years of Il Resto del Carlino” at Palazzo De’ Toschi in Bologna runs until January 14 and presents a long journey through Italian history. The exhibition, curated by Il Resto del Carlino's deputy editor Valerio Baroncini and journalist Claudio Cumani, tells the story of an adventure that began on March 20, 1885, when Cesare Chiusoli, Alberto Carboni, Francesco Tonolla, and Giulio Padovani founded a newspaper that would captivate readers. Editor Andrea Riffeser stated that the exhibition provides visitors the opportunity to appreciate the work "of a newspaper that has undergone a century and a half of transformation" and "still possesses much to share". Agnese Pini, editor of ‘Il Resto del Carlino’, remarked that "this exhibition highlights how quality information continues to be a fundamental pillar of democracy". The newspaper possesses a unique history, beginning with its name, which appears ideally suited to merge two passions: reading and smoking Tuscan cigars. The founders decided that the newspaper should be priced at two cents, the amount owed to individuals who purchased a cylinder of dried, fermented, and rolled tobacco leaves—a cigar—which cost eight cents, paid with a ten-cent coin called the "carlino". Following its inaugural exhibition in Bologna, the display will be showcased in Modena, Ravenna, Imola, Faenza, and Pesaro.
