“Buen Camino” continues its remarkable run at the Italian box office, moving ever closer to a new milestone. Just over two weeks after its release, Checco Zalone’s latest film, directed by Gennaro Nunziante, has already earned more than €65 million and attracted over eight million moviegoers. That puts it just a few steps behind Zalone’s own record-holder, Quo Vado?, which finished its 2016 run at slightly over €65.3 million.
From the very first day, it was clear the film was headed for a blockbuster run. On December 25, it took in more than €5.6 million, setting a new all-time record for a single day at Italian cinemas on Christmas Day. The opening weekend was just as impressive, with nearly €27 million collected in four days — the strongest debut ever for a film released during the holiday season. New Year’s Day also delivered outstanding results, with ticket sales exceeding €5 million in a single day.
By its second week in theaters, “Buen Camino” had already crossed the €53 million mark, overtaking two of Zalone’s previous hits, Sole a Catinelle and Tolo Tolo. That achievement placed it third on Italy’s all-time box office chart, behind only James Cameron’s Avatar at around €68.7 million and, for now, Quo Vado?.
If the current pace continues, “Buen Camino” is poised to claim the second-highest-grossing spot in Italian cinema history, further cementing Zalone’s status as one of the country’s most reliable box office stars.
