January is the month in which Jannik Sinner races toward a new “haul”, on and off the court. Despite only one big tournament scheduled before the Australian Open, the Italian number one might earn several million in the first few weeks of the year thanks to a series of international events. The initial significant event took place in Seoul, where Sinner competed and lost against Carlos Alcaraz in the Hyundai Card Super Match, an occasion that brought together the two reigning leaders in world tennis. The figures for their appearance fees are not official, but it is easy to imagine million-euro paydays for both. The match was essentially a fitness test ahead of the season's first Grand Slam, with little competitive pressure but plenty of media attention. After South Korea, the tour continued to Australia. There, Sinner and Alcaraz will compete in the unconventional "One Million Dollar Point", an exhibition tournament in which both professionals and amateurs compete in matches determined by a single point, with a grand prize of one million Australian dollars. On January 16, the Italian will face Felix Auger-Aliassime in another exhibition match. Then, beginning January 18, the action will heat up with the Australian Open in Melbourne, where the champion will walk away with nearly €2.3 million and 2,000 ranking points in a record-breaking edition.
