The closing ceremony for Agrigento, the Italian Capital of Culture 2025, took place on January 10th at the Teatro Pirandello in the Sicilian city. In 2026 the title will pass to L’Aquila. It is now time to assess Agrigento, which hosted over 60 exhibitions and presentations last year, showcasing artists, cultural institutions, and foundations who picked the city as a setting for national and international events. Among the most notable events were the openings of the new Metaphorà Museum and the City Museum, a space designed to serve as a bridge between past and present, capable of telling the story of Agrigento from Magna Graecia to the present day through multimedia exhibits that intertwine emblematic places and figures from the region. Of particular interest is also the Nocito Coral Museum in Sciacca, dedicated to the history and artisanal tradition linked to the famous red coral. The Valley of the Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, combined with the historic center, popular traditions, and the area's rich scenery and culture, served as a natural backdrop for a diverse range of initiatives. The events were designed to strengthen Agrigento's cultural identity, foster dialogue between tradition and innovation, involve local communities, and draw visitors.
