In Italy, the link with one's house is deeply emotional and cultural. Italians are among the most satisfied in Europe, with 80% saying they are happy with their home, which exceeds the continental average and leads to the home becoming a lived-in and shared space. This tie is inextricably linked with the importance of the family. According to the REMAX European Housing Trend Report 2025, more than one in every five Italians (22%) lives with their parents, siblings, or other relatives, which is higher than the European average of 18%. This notion is further reinforced by the property's design. 76% of Italians own their homes, which is much higher than the European average of 63%. According to the REMAX poll, family support often helps Italian homeowners reach this goal: 72% received financial assistance from relatives, compared to 59% across Europe. As a result, the home is viewed as a family asset, frequently passed down through generations, that leads to a stronger sense of stability and belonging.
