2025 marked a year of growth for Italy's used car market: vehicle ownership changes increased by 2.1% compared to 2024, totaling 3,221,145 transactions; motorcycle ownership changes rose by 3.1%, reaching 644,000. In 2025, there were 208 ownership transfers per 100 registrations, demonstrating that the used car market is more than twice as active as the new car market. Three out of four cars traded on the used market still run on petrol or diesel. While petrol-powered vehicles saw a 2.1% annual increase in transactions, diesel declined by 5.4%. Diesel hybrids, in contrast, experienced the most significant rise in ownership transitions (+47.9%), followed by electric vehicles (+40%) and gasoline hybrids (+31.3%).
