The Colosseum Archaeological Park is now opening the House of the Griffins to the public: one of the earliest Republican domus on the Palatine, discovered by Giacomo Boni in the early 20th century, renowned for its exceptionally well-preserved pictorial cycle. The restoration and consolidation required a collaborative effort that included 3D photogrammetric surveys as well as painted surface restoration. Thanks to the allocated funds, it was possible to initiate a scientific project aimed at studying and restoring the monument from both a structural and surface painting perspective, considering the evident signs of movement in the masonry sections during ancient times, which had led to gaps in the walls, plaster losses, and variations in the height of the mosaic floor. In the months that followed, the lighting and audiovisual systems were modified to accommodate the live real-time tour. Access to the hypogeal portion of the site is possible only via a very steep staircase, which does not allow full accessibility for all visitors. The restoration is the second of ten initiatives outlined in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan Caput Mundi.
