Fincantieri does not build only cruise ships and military vessels. The company has obtained an order exceeding €200 million through its Norwegian subsidiary Vard, which manufactures specialized vessels for the construction of four ships that operate as "robotic floating shipyards". Multi-Purpose Robotic Vessels are specialized ships designed for intricate maritime operations, particularly at significant depths, through the use of remotely operated robotic systems. The order comes from Ocean Infinity, a long-time customer of Pierroberto Folgiero's shipbuilding company, which is owned by CDP Equity. The company, of British origin and headquartered in Texas, is known, for example, for conducting the search in 2018 for Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, which disappeared in the Indian Ocean in 2014 with 239 people on board after sinking to depths of nearly 8,000 meters. This new contract with Ocean Infinity highlights Fincantieri’s ability to deliver pioneering solutions for the robotization of the maritime industry.
