The demand for glasses featuring incorporated artificial intelligence continues to grow, and Meta and EssilorLuxottica are considering a potential doubling of production capacity to satisfy this increasing demand. The decision could be made by the end of the year. In light of robust sales figures for Ray-Ban Meta, the Menlo Park-headquartered company, which is the parent organization of Facebook, is purportedly considering an expansion of its annual production capacity to 20 million units or higher by the conclusion of 2026. According to Bloomberg, the partners have also explored an even more ambitious option, which would include creating a production capacity of more than 30 million devices if demand justified it. According to estimates, EssilorLuxottica, which is in charge of production, is already on track to meet its current objective of 10 million units by the end of 2026, but the focus is now on larger-scale commercialization to reinforce its competitive advantage in the smart glasses industry. The newest $799 Meta Ray-Ban Display, which for the first time incorporates text displayed directly on the right lens, was introduced last September. However, at CES in Las Vegas last week, Meta announced that it has halted the international rollout of the new models to the United Kingdom, France, Italy, and Canada due to "unprecedented demand and limited inventory".
