Italy has also been invited to join the Peace Board for Gaza. The announcement was made by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni while speaking to journalists in Seoul, the final stop of her Asia mission. The Prime Minister affirmed that Rome is prepared to assume "a preeminent role" in the development of a Middle East peace initiative, leveraging its existing diplomatic ties with all pertinent regional actors. In addition to Italy, the Committee for the Future of Gaza comprises the presidents of Turkey, Argentina, Canada, Egypt, Israel, and Paraguay. These join the previously appointed members of the Executive Council, which include officials of the US administration, Tony Blair, delegates from Turkey, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates, as well as important players in world economic and financial circles. The High Representative for Gaza will be Nickolay Mladenov. During the press briefing, Meloni also returned to the Greenland issue, stressing that she had held talks with US President Donald Trump to clarify respective positions. The objective, she clarified, is to prevent escalations and misunderstandings, emphasizing that Europe's emphasis on the Arctic is not anti-American but rather directed at deterring possible interference by hostile entities. "The right path is to dialogue and work together", she said, calling it premature to discuss Italian involvement in prospective military missions. Finally, the prime minister indicated that when she returns, she will hold a meeting to discuss the new security package. This comprehensive strategy, agreed upon with Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi before Christmas, will prioritize eradicating baby gangs. "Security will constitute a primary focus this year", Meloni stated, further noting that the text is currently being composed and may not be finalized for the upcoming Council of Ministers meeting.
