Marcell Jacobs, one of the most famous figures in Italian track and field, has decided to take a significant step toward his athletic revival: after two years apart, the 31-year-old sprinter returned to training with Paolo Camossi, the coach who guided him through his most successful era of his career. Jacobs' career under Camossi has been spectacular, culminating in two gold medals at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics in the 100 meters and 4x100 relay. These were followed by the indoor world title in the 60 meters in Belgrade in 2022, the European indoor titles in the 60 meters in Toruń in 2021 and the outdoor 100 meters in Munich in 2022, as well as silver medals in the 4x100 at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest and the 2023 European Indoor Championships in Istanbul. Jacobs has spent the last two years living and training in the United States, namely in Jacksonville, Florida, under the guidance of American coach Rana Reider. Returning to Camossi is more than just an emotional decision; it is also a true technical and mental revitalization ahead of the upcoming major events, beginning with the European Championships in Birmingham in August, where the sprinter could attempt to win a third consecutive continental title following the one in Munich in 2022. The friendship between Jacobs and Camossi extends beyond their work relationship. Together they transformed the sprinter’s career—initially focused on the long jump—into that of one of the leading figures in Italian athletics. This return indicates both continuity and faith in a tried-and-true strategy that balances strength, technique, and athlete management. Camossi brings with him experience as a former elite triple jumper, including a bronze medal at the 2001 World Indoor Championships. Stefano Mei, president of the Italian Athletics Federation (FIDAL), made the official declaration, proving that any difficulties between Jacobs and the federation that arose in December while he was in Italy, have been overcome. "I'm proud to announce this return", Mei stated. "Marcell is an asset to Italian sport: he has recovered his desire and can still give so much on the track, from the European Championships in Birmingham in August to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Paolo Camossi is an experienced and well-prepared coach: his track record speaks for itself; he's written unforgettable chapters with Marcell, and I'm confident that this reunion will bring new satisfaction. During the Christmas holidays, away from the spotlight, we established the ideal conditions for us to design a new route together. We succeeded, and now this new challenge can finally begin".
