In Grosseto, a wedding turned into a scene straight out of a movie. On Tuesday morning, just after exchanging rings at City Hall, the groom was arrested by the Carabinieri in front of his newly-wed wife and their guests.
The 20-year-old, originally from Tunisia, was the subject of an outstanding arrest warrant for a robbery committed in Civitavecchia in 2023, a fact he was unaware of. He was tracked down thanks to the mandatory publication of marriage banns.
The officers waited until the ceremony was over before intervening, allowing the couple - she, a local woman who is expecting a baby - to officially become husband and wife. Moments later, handcuffs were put on the groom. The wedding reception has been postponed indefinitely.
