Last year, Italian airports recorded a 5% increase in passenger traffic, reaching 229.7 million. Cargo flights also climbed, surpassing 1.2 million tons, representing a 2% increase from 2024. Low-cost airlines dominated the traffic mix, accounting for 63% of passengers, while traditional carriers accounted for 37%. Rome Fiumicino confirmed its position as Italy's leading airport in terms of passenger volume, with 50.9 million passengers, surpassing 50 million for the first time, and a 22% market share. International passenger traffic originating from the EU and beyond constituted the largest segment, accounting for 157.2 million passengers, or 68% of the overall total: 43% from the EU and 25% from non-EU countries. Domestic travel, on the other hand, registered 72.5 million passengers, accounting for 32% of the total. Milan Malpensa reaffirms its position as the largest cargo airport, handling over 764,000 tons and accounting for 61% of the market.
