Ten years after Giulio Regeni's disappearance and murder, his family continues to demand the truth and justice without compromise. The young researcher sent his last message from Cairo on January 25, 2016, and his body, which showed apparent indications of torture, was discovered on the road to Alexandria a few days later. The case has since become a civic symbol, accompanied by the mobilization of citizens who have chosen yellow as the color of remembrance, amidst neglect and misdirection. President Sergio Mattarella reaffirmed on the tenth anniversary that the Egyptian authorities' cooperation continues to be a critical measure for the bilateral relationship, and that truth and justice cannot be compromised. From the platform in Giulio's hometown of Fiumicello, his mother, Paola Deffendi, noted that "there is no culture without respect for human rights" and urged the documentary about her son to be broadcast internationally. His father, Claudio, described the past 10 years as "a stage in a journey that is still open", and asked for ongoing support for the family. The day was punctuated by meetings, screenings, and a rights walk, which concluded at 7:41 PM with a minute of silence, remembering Giulio's final moment of contact. In numerous places, candles and readings placed alongside yellow benches reinforced a collective commitment to remember Regeni not only as a victim, but also as a permanent reminder of the importance of human rights and institutional responsibility.
