Trinasolar, the Chinese battery powerhouse, has inked its first large-scale battery energy storage (BESS) project in Italy. The project will be developed in Rondissone, Turin province, with a capacity of 250 MW and 1,000 MWh (1 GWh). The initiative is part of Trinasolar's growth strategy for the Italian renewable energy market, and it aims to build one of the largest battery storage systems in Italy and Europe, where the Group has already contracted for over 4 GWh of BESS projects in the United Kingdom, Germany, Greece, Spain, and Eastern Europe. The Ministry of the Environment has implemented a framework that encourages Asian battery sector players to invest in Italy: long-term contracts with fixed premiums are awarded through competitive auctions to store excess energy, assuring grid stability and renewable integration. Italy has emerged as one of the most attractive markets for energy storage systems.
