The National Archaeological Museum of Reggio Calabria is currently exhibiting "Gianni Versace. Terra Mater – Magna Graecia Roots Tribute" until April 19. This exhibition is dedicated to the deep bond between the great designer, murdered in Miami in 1997, and the cultural roots of his homeland. "Calabria, where I was born, is for me perfume, dazzling light, shadows", Versace once stated. The exhibition delves into the relationship between fashion, archaeology, and Mediterranean identity, with a particular emphasis on the symbolic power of Magna Graecia and its impact on Gianni Versace's imagination. A variety of apparel, accessories, furnishings, sketches, and photographs created by the Reggio Calabria-born designer's eclectic vision, with extensive references to Greek and Roman classicism, are on show. Motifs inspired by Magna Graecia archeological artifacts guide the visitor on a journey that combines contemporary glamour, myth, and communal imagination.
