Jannik Sinner continues his commanding run in Melbourne, confirming himself as one of the main contenders at the Australian Open. In the all-Italian clash against Luciano Darderi, the world number two controlled the match from start to finish, sealing a 6-1, 6-3, 7-6 victory in just over two hours.
Sinner dominated the opening two sets with aggressive baseline play and flawless serving, leaving Darderi little room to respond. Only in the third set did the younger Italian raise his level, pushing the match into a tie-break, which Sinner closed decisively. It marks the fifth consecutive Grand Slam in which Italy places two players in the quarterfinals.
Alongside Sinner stands Lorenzo Musetti, who delivered a mature and composed performance to defeat Taylor Fritz 6-2, 7-5, 6-4. Taking advantage of the American’s knee problems but above all relying on improved serving and a more aggressive mindset, Musetti controlled the match and earned a prestigious quarterfinal against Novak Djokovic.
“I feel more mature and more aggressive on court,” Musetti said after the match, highlighting his progress on serve and his desire to dictate play. For Italian tennis, it is another landmark moment: two players among the last eight in Melbourne, with Sinner chasing history and Musetti ready to test himself against one of the legends of the game.
