The Council of Ministers has authorized the declaration of a national state of emergency for Sicily, Sardinia, and Calabria, which have been impacted by the severe weather of the past few days. The initial response will be funded by €100 million from the National Emergency Fund. Civil Protection Minister Nello Musumeci made the statement, stating that the state of emergency might last 12 months, with the option of being extended for another 12. The preliminary damage estimate reported by the Regions is around €1.241 billion. A new provision for infrastructure repair is due in the coming days, and regional presidents will be nominated as reconstruction commissioners.
