Bolzano once again confirms its status as Italy’s leading province in terms of contribution to the national team for the Winter Olympics. Among the 196 Italian athletes selected - a record number - 47 hail from South Tyrol, giving the province an unmatched presence. From Friday 6 February, Italy will field 103 men and 93 women at the Games. Bolzano, alongside Trento, will be represented by at least one athlete - male or female - in 12 of the 16 Olympic disciplines. Belluno, Bergamo, Sondrio and Udine follow at a distance, each contributing six athletes. South Tyrol is also home to Italy’s most experienced Winter Olympian. Snowboarder Roland Fischnaller will compete in the parallel slalom event in Livigno, marking his seventh consecutive Olympic appearance. His Olympic debut dates back to 2002, when he was just 21; now 45, he continues to set national records. Another milestone comes from southern Italy: Campania will be represented at the Winter Olympics for the first time, thanks to 16-year-old Giada D’Antonio from Naples. A rising star in alpine skiing, she will be the youngest Italian athlete competing at the 2026 Games.
