Pregnancy in Italy is becoming more complex and delayed, with an average age of 34 at childbirth and over one in five women experiencing anxiety disorders. Vaccination coverage during pregnancy is poor, with just 47% of women combining prevention with immunizations, which are critical for safeguarding both mothers and newborns. This was revealed at the event "Protecting Maternal and Child Health: The Value of Primary Prevention in Pregnancy", organized by the Onda ETS Foundation at the Ministry of Health. The event brought together institutions and the scientific community to strengthen integrated prevention strategies during pregnancy. Pregnancy is still a difficult stage, not only clinically, but also emotionally and organizationally. Data demonstrate that age, personal and professional responsibilities, and the difficulties of understanding sometimes fragmented healthcare recommendations all have a growing impact on pregnant experiences. Critical access challenges are also present: one in every three women finds practical difficulty in harmonizing visits, tests, and preventative care advice, emphasizing the need for more flexible, coordinated, and person-centered treatment pathways.
