Cinema against bullying: U.S. adaptation of “The Boy in Pink Pants” announced
The poetry of music and the magic of theater to recount a tragic story and transform it into hope. The story of Andrea Spezzacatena—the fifteen-year-old Italian boy who committed suicide in 2012 because he was bullied—is coming to the theater for the first time: starting Friday, February 20, the Sistina Theater in Rome will host the world premiere of the musical "The Boy with the Pink Pants", directed by Massimo Romeo Piparo, who adapted the film with Roberto Proia, screenwriter of the popular movie of the same name. After a nationwide tour of Italian schools, "The Boy with the Pink Pants" premiered on Netflix in May 2025 and was among the top ten most-watched films for more than a month. The feature film, which was an immediate success with both public and critics, will also have an American remake directed by Nick Cassavetes, with filming scheduled to begin this year in the United States to address the universal theme of bullying.
