It is a historic day for Italy at the Winter Olympic Games: the Azzurri won five medals in a single day, setting a new record. Silver arrives in biathlon with the mixed relay, while three bronzes are won by Sofia Goggia in women’s downhill, Lucia Dalmasso in parallel giant snowboard and Riccardo Lorello in speed skating. Fischnaller rounds off the medals with a bronze in luge. This is an extremely successful debut for Luciano Buonfiglio, President of CONI, in his inaugural Olympics as the National Olympic Committee's head. Previously, Italy had never gone beyond three medals in a single day, a milestone reached only twice, both on February 17, in Lillehammer and Salt Lake City.
