Tourist groups admitted to Capri are now limited to no more than 40 people. The Municipality has targeted travel operators who organize massive trips that overcrowd the island's small territory and most iconic landmarks, such as the Piazzetta. In addition to the maximum limit of 40 visitors for groups of more than 20 people, the new regulations mandate that all visitors wear headphones to listen to the explanations of their designated tour guide. The guide must carry an appropriate paddle rather than umbrellas, scarves or other poorly visible objects. The guide will also be in charge of keeping the group together throughout the tour, avoiding taking up all of the available space, which is especially important in scenic areas like the Piazzetta itself or panoramic sites overlooking the Faraglioni or the Gulf of Naples. "Our objective is to ensure that the tourism experience is sustainable and does not degenerate into the disaster that it frequently becomes", stated Paolo Falco, the mayor of Capri. "For this reason, we believe we need rules, and the measure we just approved goes precisely in this direction".
