The Eurobarometer survey for autumn 2025, which was published by the European Parliament, indicates that the primary concerns of European citizens, including Italians, are the cost of living, employment, and security. While the majority predict their level of living will remain unchanged over the next five years, a sizable minority (28%) anticipate a decline. This concern is most common among French (45%), Belgian (40%), and Slovak (40%) respondents. As for Italians, at the top of the priorities the Parliament should deal with are the economy and jobs (41%), up 6 percentage points from May 2025, and inflation and the cost of living (40%). Of note is the huge increase in public healthcare, which is a priority for 37% of Italians, up 16 percentage points from last May. According to the survey, the most concerning issues are continuous conflicts and wars near the European Union (72%), terrorism (67%), natural disasters aggravated by climate change (66%), and cyber threats from nations outside the EU (66%). In Italy, the figures are higher than the EU average: 83 percent for ongoing nearby conflicts, terrorism, and natural disasters exacerbated by climate change, and 79 percent for cyber attacks from non-EU countries. Uncontrolled migratory flows (81 percent) and the Union's reliance on foreign countries for energy supplies (78 percent) are among the other top concerns for Italian citizens.
