The European Parliament has paid tribute to former President David Sassoli by naming one of its symbolic buildings in Brussels after him. The Bureau of the Parliament has decided to dedicate the Treves Building, located on the Parliament’s esplanade, to the late Italian statesman. The announcement was made by Vice-President of the European Parliament and Italian MEP Pina Picierno, who described the decision as deeply meaningful. “We have written a page of memory and commitment,” she said, emphasising that the dedication honours a profoundly European political figure who embodied institutional dignity and a strong defence of democracy. European Parliament President Roberta Metsola echoed these sentiments, calling the initiative “not merely a symbolic gesture, but a living and lasting reminder of David Sassoli’s dedication to European values.” According to Metsola, Sassoli’s name will now have a permanent presence at the heart of Brussels, serving as an inspiration for future generations.
