Chinese-made vehicles are gaining traction in the Italian market and consumer confidence. More than seven in ten Italians say they are ready to buy one, with a preference for SUVs and hybrid crossovers and a maximum budget of €30,000. This is indicated by the recent survey "What do Italians think of Chinese cars?" which was conducted by Areté, a prominent operational and strategic consulting firm, in January. 73% of Italians now think they are prepared to buy a Chinese car, up from 68% in October 2024. Product quality, rather than economy, is now driving this choice: 51% of those polled say reliability, materials, technological features, and advanced on-board systems are important. Some residual, but present, issues persist among those who are not yet ready to make the leap: 28% have reservations about the quality of materials, and another 28% are concerned that after-sales support is not yet up to par. The study thus highlights a gradual shift in perception: there is a rising receptivity to Chinese brands, which are increasingly valued not only for their competitive pricing, but also for the entire quality of their offerings.
