After nearly six months of operations in the skies over Estonia, the Italian Air Force's Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft, which have been stationed at Ämari Air Base since September 22, 2025, have achieved the milestone of 500 flight hours. This milestone was achieved through the completion of over 280 sorties as part of operational, training, and air defense exercises. This is a huge achievement for the Quick Reaction Alert assets, which are responsible for daily airspace surveillance on NATO's eastern border. The ground air defense component also contributes to the Baltic Air Policing role, utilizing the Italian Army's SAMP/T medium-range missile system. The system, which was deployed with two operational launchers and one reserve, provided continuous operational availability for the majority of the deployment period, thereby improving the integrated airspace surveillance and control system. The Kronos radar was used in conjunction with the Arabel radar, extending its detection and tracking capabilities. The Air Task Force "4th Wing", which consists of around 250 personnel from the Italian Air Force and Army, contributes significantly to NATO's deterrence and defense efforts in the Baltic area.
