Mnesys is the largest neuroscience research program ever carried out in Italy. Funded by the NRRP and coordinated by the University of Genoa, it involves hundreds of researchers, universities, hospitals, and research centers nationwide. The goal is to gain a greater understanding of how the brain works, both in health and when ill. In just a few years, the initiative has generated over 1,500 scientific papers, many of which have been published in prestigious international publications. Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, depression, and uncommon neurological disorders are among the common and difficult diseases studied. One of the most unique parts of Mnesys is its use of modern technology, such as "digital twins" of the brain, virtual models that aid in disease research and the development of more tailored therapeutics. Mnesys has helped Italy establish itself as a leader in European brain research, with real-world implications for health and patient quality of life.
