Ten years have passed since Umberto Eco’s death (19 February 2016). To remember him, a 24-hour non-stop digital marathon will transform the professor’s memory into a collective dialogue, inviting his global community of readers and scholars to join leading cultural figures. The global event, titled "Eco Eco Eco - A World-Wide Talk for Umberto", will be aired live on the Umberto Eco Foundation and Bottega Finzioni ETS Foundation YouTube accounts beginning at 12:00 p.m. on February 18. February 19 will dawn for the first time on the earth at midnight in the archipelago of Kiribati and the Fiji Islands. The live broadcast will begin symbolically on the island of Taveuni (Fiji), crossed by the 180th meridian, where Umberto Eco arrived to work on his renowned novel, 'The Island of the Day Before', where the International Date Line allows one to “travel through time” between yesterday and today. The Marathon will end at 12:00 noon on February 19, 2026, Italian time. A journey around the world in 24 hours: the marathon has been conceived to embrace the entire globe, moving symbolically from East to West. The live broadcast, which spans all time zones, will give voice to every country influenced by Umberto Eco's impact and presence, from Asian universities to those in Europe, all the way to the Americas, covering the full reach of a thought that has spoken every language.
